4. Reduce table salt (sodium) in your diet
Reducing sodium in the diet can improve your heart health by lowering high blood pressure. A lower sodium intake of 1,500 mg a day or less is a recommendation for adults.
Apart from reducing table salt, avoid foods having preservatives and avoid processed foods too. Instead of adding salt, you can use herbs and spices to add flavor to food.
5. Limit alcohol
Too much alcohol can cause elevated blood pressure. It also counters the effectiveness of blood pressure medications. Limiting alcohol to less than two drinks a day can help lower blood pressure.
6. Quit smoking
Just like drinking alcohol, smoking also increases blood pressure. Stopping smoking also reduces the risk of heart disease and improves overall health, possibly leading to a longer life.
7. Have proper night sleep
Although it seems strange, sleep plays a major role in maintaining blood pressure. Sleeping less than 6 hrs a day for several weeks can contribute to hypertension. One must stick to a strict and timely sleep schedule. One must follow a routine such as going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. One must try to keep the same schedule on weeknights and weekends. A proper night sleep can reduce blood pressure symptoms. Therefore physicians always suggest sleep as a high blood pressure diet.
8. Reduce stress
